I think it's entirely clear that Walsh outright rejects the notion that the definition of the word "woman" (or any definition for that matter) can be anything other than a question of truth. That is, after all, the entire point of the movie.

How something can be a "question of understanding", but not of truth is beyond me. How can you possibly understand anything without being able to first define it?
