My apologies Tessa. It wasn't my intention to say that you were not a "true writer/journalist" and if I were being more careful I wouldn't have phrased my point that way at all. The comparison I was trying to to make was between writers of major publications like the ones you mentioned and people who use medium to write partisan diatribes that are littered with hyperbole and simplistic assumptions about complex issues. I don't think for a minute that that applies to anything you've written.

The point I would have made if I had made it more thoughtfully would have been that too many people write in a way that is so ideologically self-indulgent that they would benefit from engaging with their detractors as long as those detractors are offering something of substance to engage with.
