The Lab Leak Hypothesis Could Turn the Tables on the COVID-19 Political Narrative
Think there are no libertarians in a pandemic? Think again…
It wasn’t more than a few weeks after the announcement of “15-days to flatten the curve” before a rare moment of national unity turned into one of America’s most contentious culture wars.
It seemed that as the pandemic refused to wane many began to grasp for someone to blame, and in the process, debates over causes and solutions became intensely politicized. Many of those skeptical of government’s efficacy stood by helplessly as the political and media elites used the pandemic to bolster their agenda — namely the claim that the state ought to have a larger role to play in society.
Suddenly, COVID-19 was the trump card for those who had axes to grind against federalism, capitalism, market-based healthcare, etc. and at times it seemed that the very concept of individual liberty was under siege.
But now, with the lab leak hypothesis gaining credibility it seems the popular narrative may be in need of an update. Not only would a lab leak indite the Chinese government but it would also point enormous fault in the direction of the United State’s health bureaucracy, namely the NIH which funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute…
